These names and address are showing up in a few places. Caution is advised before anything is done. Whoever it is that pulled this sick joke needs to be slaughtered like the pigs they are. Interviews with others at various news sources are revealing that the people who did this are showing no remorse at all for the results. They knew what they were doing, and they WANTED this result. This was not malicious teasing, it was no different than standing on the edge of a building and pushing the potential jumper off the edge.
If a person is not suicidal, and someone else abuses them psychologically to the point that suggesting suicide results in that persons death, it is murder.
 

I am so disturbed by Lori Drews Response the the reporter. She is one cold,cold person. I hope Karma comes back around to these rotten apples. My heart breaks for poor Megan, if only someone had spoken up before this got to be so ugly. What kind of person would do this kind of thing and be bale to sleep at night? I am a Lori and a mother of teens and a pre-teen. I live so close to Waterford Crossing, which is just past the Middle school. I went to the dentist on K & N this morning and I drove through the neighborhood after. A morbid curiosity drew me there...can you see if evil dwells in a home? Nope, they all looked cute on a lovely fall day. Did you know that Lori Drew was involved with the Chamber of Commerce? Pretty chummy with the local officials. No wonder she didn't get charged with anything. The Meiers have two charges against them. On Fox 2 news they asked for us to write to the powers that be.

One chief motivation for naming this woman is to make her face enough public shame that she tries to atone for her malicious scheme,and the pain and anger she brought to people who thought of her as a trusted friend....

And she could start by asking for a nolle prosequi of the "you drove in my yard" complaint against Ronald Meier.

The charge could be reinstated - if she fears future harassment or vandalism, the threat of a reinstated charge would be hanging like a sword of Damocles for a year or so.

She fears civil and criminal action against herself.
I want to add a larger fear - the fear that people will know who she really is like inside; selfish, calculating, disloyal, petty....and hope that she wil try to amend herself or at least cover that up by doing the right thing and asking the court to stop prosecution of this case and eventually drop charges altogether if nothing illegal is attempted by way of revenge against her by the Meiers.

Hate machine? I will give every benefit of human compassion to Lori Drew. Her act was vile, but done out of a misguided attmempt to protect her own child. I suspect Drew is probably a damaged person, and may have suffered from rejection and peer attacks in her teens that warped her in ways that carried into adulthood.

Unfortunately she is the Vic Morrow of helicopter parents.

I hope the shame of this sticks her hard, hard enough that she stops trying to avoid public blame, and takes responsibility for what she set in motion.

May I suggest that those in the community ignore the Drew family, refuse to provide them any services, if you own a business, and turn away from them on the street. Make these people invisible - do not taunt or harm them in anyway.
 

Um, not to spoil a good old fashioned angy mob scene or anything... but do try to remember that newspapers often get things wrong. Perhaps everyone can wait to get out the torches and pitchforks at least until at least it's known for sure that the facts are as portrayed in that article.
 

A couple of points, Kim.

Drew was given the option to provide her own accounting of events to Pokin, and declined.

An official public document of her own statements to police, police she summoned herself, contains her own description of her part in the story.

All that is necessary to decide she acted unconscionably is to know she was aware of it, and allowed it to continue with her indirect assistance. But there it is almost certainly worse than that.

And as you are well aware, there is strong reason to accept she was not only permitted her daughter to "punk" her former friend, but set up the account, sponsoring it, monitoring it, and encouraging others including minor children to join in the "joke".

The strongest reason to believe this is so is the criminal complaint she filed an the statement given by her to police of her involvement. That statement is very damning.

Police contradict her self-serving remarks about attempting to "correct" the report - both that police recorded her remarks incorrectly, certainly not in any way that mattered, and also that she ever attempted an amendment to her remarks, timely or otherwise.

Then there is the account of a young woman who
said she was encouraged to join in by the Drew adults, and the account of pressure to keep the myspace "punking" private after Megan killed herself.

Then, after hurting Megan in this awful way, knowing her peculiar vulnerabilities, they pretended friendship with the Meier family.

The duplicity is sickening.

Assume the worst about Megan. She was still only a 13 yo girl. She was a child prone to mental instability and reckless behavior. An adult does not permit or indulge, let alone create a scheme like that to revenge a childish friendship breakup.

There is no doubt Megan was especially vulnerable to upset and overreaction, moreso than even a typical 13 yo. But this was known, Megan was no stranger. And her suicide was precipitated by that Myspace debacle, no question, no matter the other issues she was troubled about.
 

I used to live down the street from this family and thought there was something not quite right then. Obviously my intuition was correct. My daughter is the same age as her daughter. Thank God we moved away. People should also know the name of their business is "The Drew ADvantage" it is an advertising flyer. People should contact the advertisers and tell them not to advertise with them anymore. My thoughts and prayers go to the Meiers!

While the names and addresses were easy to assemble in this case, it was important to be sure.

While looking for updates on Fox, I ran across Jezebel's latest post. She called Pokin herself and she has said he confirmed the Drews are the culprits, though he did so rather inadvertantly.

I found out who these people were days ago, and have stressed about how much confirmation was enough. When I was rock solid sure, I posted, hoping it would get the names out there, and perhaps give a boost to people reluctant to spill the identities.

I wasn't mistaken so I was never worried about slandering an innocent person - and believe me, in this case, the records would have been corrected quickly by any innocent party.

Back up people. You have an article that was written in a very one sided manner that seems to be a lot of speculation and conjecture and you are going to harass these people based off of this? If you want to make a change call your senator or congressman and have a bill written up to make something like this against the law. Looking at this case in the light most favorable to Lori Drew, she is guilty of an unconscionable act.

Drew had the opportunity to respond to Pokin, and she declined despite the warning that he must then rely upon the statement Lori gave when she summoned police, which outlines her participation in that website. It would be an outrage to the community if she had only known of and permitted the "trojan boy" deception, but her involvement is documented in her own words to be somehing much worse. (and - to my view of things- she practically boasted of teaching Megan a lesson.)

Why don't you point out where you feel the article was one-sided. I'll be happy to disabuse you of any idea that would excuse Lori Drew.

Civil action should be used in this case to formally speak for the conscience of the community. I don't advocate any other action against Lori Drew but the shunning she so richly deserves, until she has taken every possible attempt to atone for her part in the mental anguish she cause to a child Lori Drew knew full well was especially vulnerable.

Why should her identity be protected? Why should her reputation be spared? Let her speak, if she has a defense. Only understand, she has already admitted what she has done.

She set an employee of her email marketing company to the task of setting up and monitoring this account. Would you want to do business with someone who used the relative anonymity of the internet so unethically?
 

Work brought near the neighborhood today, so I drove by. As I passed the Drew Family house, Lori was in the front door, letting some sort of workman in. She didn't seem phased at all, but hopefully she's just a good actor. I hope the workman was helping them prepare their house for sale.

I'm not trying to absolve that girl's parents of their role in this. I just don't want people to focus on 1 or 2 specific individuals and pretend that they are oh so horrible and if not for them (or the wild wild west of Myspace), we wouldn't have these problems. Megan would have done this whether or not it was an adult on the other end. That kind of pain is dished out constantly in every school and self-esteem and lives are ruined by it. I just wish incidents like this could shift focus to the larger problem rather than being a Nancy Grace type story where the only object is to get the isolated "bad guy."

I was lucky, we didn't have the internet all over the place back then, and I don't think her parents were monsters like these. I'm so sorry to be posting on this blog. I hate to be labeled a someone who does this often. But upon watching cnn this evening i first came upon this heart wrenching and incredibly heart breaking case. As a young girl i too had confidence problems and such and with my family being torn apart, my life wasn't anything easy. I had been there at that point. Where I felt I had no value in this world. I am just so luck i received help. This case touched me so...and because of it being so close to my heart, I am absolutely enraged about this Lori woman. Upon first finding out that it was AN ADULT NEIGHBOR WHO WAS ALSO a MOTHER!!!! I couldn't believe it. I can not believe some one could do something SO immature. Parents should no better! I'm not saying I wouldn't be less enraged if it was just some kid who did it but it just makes it...slightly more frustrating. I believe that Lori will get whats coming to her whether it be in the justice system, something just as awful happening to her and her family or final judgment. And I say that not being an entirely religious woman. My heart is sickened and hot tears are glazing over my eyes. I love you Megan. I hate what happened to you and I hate Lori Drew.

I saw this story on CNN tonight. It sickened me to think that an adult and a mother could stoop to these types of actions. I think, after hearing the story on CNN and after some additional investigation that there is no doubt in my mind that Lori Drew is responsible for the death of this 13 year old child.

The shunning of the Drews’ and any businesses that they may be involved with and the notification of any advertisers that she does business with is a superb idea. The citizens of this community have the opportunity to express their opinions to the Drews’ actions by never again acknowledging their existence.

If I were on a jury of a civil action against Lori Drew for her actions, it would be a slam dunk in my opinion.

From a legal point of view at the very minimum there was a conspiracy on Lori Drews’ part in that she attempted to involve others in here “Game”. It also appears that she may have committed witness tampering when she asked others to not talk about the MySpace page.

If any viable person in the area would like to establish a legal fund that would allow the Meirs to file a civil action, I would be happy to contribute. How’s about it Sarah

I won't "trigger" an episode by thinking. It doesn't work that way. I can trigger episodes, be they manias or depressions, by lack of sleep, stress, not taking medication, taking the wrong otc medications, and essentially the same things which will trigger my seizures. As a result, I do my best to live a healthy life so I don't have to deal with either issue.

Megan Meier was too young to make logical decisions. She didn't even know that she could just wait the depression out, and everything would blow over. She hadn't yet reached that age in which that knowledge comes. The closest she could possibly come is the gnawing in the back of her mind that she didn't want to die, it's just she couldn't cope with the pain she was feeling.

I'm trying to speak to you in a serious manner, as if you aren't just some childish internet troll... However, you keep acting like you are simply another internet troll. You make jokes about suicide, about those with mental illness, as if what happened to that little girl is hilarious? Do you not feel the least bit of compassion?

Mike Hansen - I was wondering why it wasn't mentioned that they'd try to file a civil lawsuit. It would make sense, if the law won't get them for any sort of criminal negligence/intent. Oh goodness, it would be no trouble for them to get money up if they started a fund. The story, the picture of Megan's innocent face full of promise, and now a future lost - it's all just heart-wrenching.

I really wish there was a way I could get it out and across to everyone who is feeling suicidal, or will ever feel suicidal, this message: Yes, I know, it feels awful. You don't want to live. You can't cope with the pain anymore. You just want it to stop. FORGET SUICIDE. Just take something to help you sleep, sleep it off. If you still feel the same when you wake up, sleep some more, or call 911 and check yourself in to a hospital. Just wait through it, as hard as it may be. IT WILL PASS. It always does. It's a rocky damn ride which can last quite a while, but it always passes, and when it is over, you'll be so damn thankful to be alive.

- After the girl dies and the Meiers find out about the myspace account, their solution was to resort to vandalism and not a wrongful death lawsuit?

On the one hand, I would say she shouldn't die because if she doesn't feel bad about what she did to this poor girl now, she isn't likely to, ever. Telling the parents to "give it a rest," like they're asking her to keep her dog off their property or something.

Yes, I believe what happened was like putting a loaded gun in the hands of a saddened teen. Yes, I believe justice is hard to come by.

But, there are many bad things happening in this community. This community will need a lot of good things to happen to EVER turn it around. Vigilante groups are not justice. I wonder how many of those who want to be judge and jury would stand up to a “good parenting test” themselves. Those in Dardenne Prairie and O’Fallon should take a look at the statistics for all teens here and the parents who raise them: Check out how many teens are sexually active, are expelled, are taking part in vandalism, or gambling, or drinking, or drugs. Obviously cruelty can be criminal, or is an element of many crimes.

But crime isn't necessary to prove a tort. I keep repeating, there is a legal remedy here, any lack of applicable criminal statute notwithstanding. It's in the form of a civil lawsuit.

In a post above this one on this blog, I started to discuss the Meier's stated reluctance to sue and to pursue the next [insert child name here] law.

I'm not really in favor of creating this new grey areas in the law affecting internet communications or content...where using pseudonyms could be a crime, and so on, not using pseudonyms to address a child.

It is the particular circumstances in this single case, all together, that make this what some call "the worst internet story they've ever heard".

The disgusting nature of all Lori Drews acts from bginning to end, , the forseeability of harm, the degree of harm that did result - this is the best case, indeed the only case, I have every seen that would seem to meet every element of intentional infliciton of emotional distress.

One purpose of the civil courts is to act as the conscience of the community even when no specific crime has been comitted. I would like to see that happen in this case.

Lori Drew, no doubt, should be held accountable for her actions. I literally had a physical reaction when I read the story of Megan Meier. It is unfathomable to me that a grown woman, with a family and career would have the time to execute such a cruel and deceitful plan. Her motive was to cause humiliation to a 13 y/o girl. Note to all: apparently, Lori Drew thought up this little scheme, not her daughter. What kind of person teaches her kid that the way to deal with adversity is to obliterate? And then spearheads the campaign? I think this woman is more dangerous than we could ever imagine if this is how she wants her children to operate. She should be identified so parents can protect their own kids. She may not have had suicide on her mind, but she purposely duped who she personally knew was a vulnerable child. Just goes to show that the outside of the cup can look great, but the inside can be nasty.

As far as the lady who got so crappy about bringing God into this (I don't remember her name; she was probably anonymous), I would say this: Please shut up. True, we shouldn't judge others or wish harm upon them, although in cases that seem this cut-n-dried, it is difficult to do.But when you extend the fire and brimstone, I think you totally miss what God would really want conveyed: that He forgives. That He can take an awful situation and make some good of it. That He loves everyone on this page just as much as He loves you. He loves Lori Drew, which just goes to show why He's God and I'm not. And He loves Megan. So please quit slinging mud attached to His Name. I doubt He's pleased with any of this, but His message is of Love and Forgiveness, mercy and grace, so please give the other a rest.

I have been through the same thing this girl was going through, being stalked online (and off) by a sociopath and it still continues.

There is no law to protect me until this woman finally crosses the line even though she has open threads recruiting strangers to attack me.

The internet is something less than a safe place to be and my heart goes out to this damaged child who took her own life over the actions of vicious sadists.

Sadly, my experience has shown me that a huge number of seemingly 'normal' people think stuff like this is funny and high drama and they enjoy being in the middle of it and strive to keep it going.

Anyone who watches something like this happening to another person online without calling it out as disgusting is partially to blame.

This kind of mobbing and harassment happens often in the workplace and the workplaces it doesn't happen in are the ones where management stays atuned to the start of it and neither buys into the harassment nor ignores it.

As an adult it's hard not to let being stalked and slandered for years ruin my healthy self-esteem. I cannot even imagine trying to bear such a cross as an insecure teen.

I shall keep Megan and her family in my prayers and continue to pray for the average person to have enough decency to stand up for people who are being victimized by bullies cyber or otherwise.

This is the most disgusting story I have ever seen, to think that this woman developed this account to find out "what the Megan was saying about her daughter online", bragged about it to another child and encouraged participation of that child and then the night she heard the sirens to have the audacity to tell that other child to "keep her mouth shut" is shameful. Thank goodness that child decided to do the right thing and go forward so the Meier family was able to find out the truth. Kids can be so mean to each other - but an ADULT! This woman should be ashamed. I hope there is a court trial.
 

We heard the news here in Iceland so I decided to Google the girls name to get more information.

There has to be something in the law where this nut job can get charged for mentally abusing a minor. It makes me sick that she went so far as to talk to the girl sexually; the lady sounds psychopathic.

Posting her address and phone number is thoughtless, it has a witch hunt feel to it. Her kids don't deserve to suffer for their mom's actions, I can imagine they will for a long time if people are starting to post contact information on the web. I think raising money to get Megan's parents a good lawyer is the way to go, CNN will take care of destroying Lori's life. I bet her husband will be leaving her and taking the kids with him very soon :-)

That is just a woman with the same name, who lives somewhere else, and is not related in any way to the matter discussed here.
 

I completely understand the revulsion everyone feels toward the Drew family, but I have to reiterate what has been said elsewhere--there is another minor child involved in this case, and some of the wishes of the online "detectives" could be harmful that that child. Until we know that she is safe--perhaps in other custody, actually--can we tone down the vitriol? I certainly do not wish to advocate that the perpetrator of this account walk scot-free from her deeds, nor her employee, but at the end of the day we are still dealing with the possibility that this scenario may well destroy another 13-year-old.

Just asking for some perspective.

Any adult who would harass and torment a child online is truly disgusting. The fact that she shows no remorse for what she did is even worse.
 

If I, as a 30 something year old male, would have been pretending to be a 14 year old boy and chatting up a 13 year old girl my a$$ would be sitting in a jail cell instead of posting on on this blog. Why the hell ain't she in jail for that? Just because she is a female doesn't mean she gets a walk, as I do believe the laws are gender neutral with regard to crimes like this....
It is a crime for an adult to have sexual/intimate conversation with a minor... but apparently that only applies to MALE Adults.

I guess this is a rhetorical question, just something to ponder, but was it better for this child to see her mother publicly reviled for her actions, or to have seen her mother continue to justify them, and essentially get away with them?
 

As a person that is very close to this case lets look at the facts.

#1 - The family that created the MySpace account of Josh Evans did this so they could, in their confession to police, find out "what Megan was saying about their daughter". The police report that has been posted confirms this and confirms that the mother confessed that she "created, instigated, and monitored the account".

#2 - The family that created the MySpace account bragged, laughed and told another 13 year old child and encouraged this child to join in the joke. Since these were trusted adults - friends of the family for years - the child did send one message. (This child later came forward and "broke" the case.)

#3 - This MySpace account had been in place for about 6 weeks in which Megan thought this person was her online boyfriend. She and he shared intimate conversations. The creators of this MySpace then ended the relationship with the a barrage of hateful emails that Megan received on the Monday she hung herself. The last message she received was "the world would be a better place without you". Less than 20 minutes after receipt of that message, Megan hung herself.


#4 - The day that Megan hung herself, within literally minutes of hearing the ambulance, the family that created the MySpace immediately deleted the Josh Evans account and called the 13 year old telling her to "keep her mouth shut".

#5 - Another neighbor, close family friend, administered CPR to Megan - bringing her back to life for a short 24 hours before Megan passed in her parents arms at a local hospital.

#6 - The family that created the MySpace attended Megan's wake and funeral. They never shed a tear. The Meier's, after the funeral, went to this families house to comfort their daughter. They invited the Meier's to their child's birthday party and the fathers birthday party. The Meier's attended. They celebrated Halloween together and this family asked the Meier's to store a foosball table. They were blatant in their actions knowing all along what they had done and yet never told or even showed remorse.

#7 - The child that was enlisted by the MySpace perpetrators came forward to her mother, the single mom, (the day that Megan died). This mother immediately called the St. Charles Police (and contrary to what the police have recently stated to reporters) she was told by the police to keep quiet while they were deciding what to do and after weeks of going back and forth on the phone, this police department said there was nothing they could do and also stated they would not aid the single mother in bringing the matter to the Meier's attention. The single mother had no choice but to break the news to the Meier's at a counselors office located in northern O'fallon. This was the weekend after Thanksgiving - a full 5 weeks after Megan's death.

#8 - The Meier's left that counselors office and went home and destroyed the foosball table. They hacked it into dozens of pieces and threw it into the perpetrators driveway. The entire neighborhood learned the truth. People were angry. The MySpace perpetrators called the police and filed a report about the destroyed foosball table and at that same time confessed to the police. The felt they had done nothing wrong. After all, "If it wasn't this incident it would have been something else, Megan was suicidal anyway".

#9 - For one year the families were told to remain quiet while the FBI investigated the case. It was then determined that no criminal charges would be filed. The Meier family decided to take the case to the press.

For the past week the local and national media has been covering the case. The public is outraged. The Meier's are divorcing and still facing the charges for property damage to the foosball table. The MySpace perpetrators are "business as usual". They are still living their lives normally, showing no grief or remorse and not talking to the press and by the way, placing holiday decorations on their house. Since they did "no wrong" they will be celebrating a "joyous" holiday season while many of the public remain outraged.

There are many innocent victims in this story; the child that was encouraged to be part of the joke, the children of the MySpace perpetrators (yes, they did not choose their parents), the Meier's, family, friends and neighbors. Go to your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and hug them and thank god everyday that they are alive and well. Don't ever think that they are safe even if they are at home. In these days of the Internet, Cell phones, and Instant Messaging the bullying of children can and does happen everywhere. Children being mean to each other is typical of their young age - their young minds are so easily influenced. Adults pulling a stunt like this is appalling. May justice be served and the laws of the land be changed so nothing like this ever goes unpunished again.

Please write the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's office and the local and state legislators. It is hard for one to make change - but as a village we can rise and make a difference.

Sarahw, I'm fully capable of understanding the consequences online postings can have. I have worked with website management for 8 years and have seen what it can do to people. 2 wrongs don't make a right; jut imagine if one of her kids gets beat up by some nut case that sees all this info on here? You are responsible for what you post online and have to live with your actions if they do result in something bad happening. I know you can find this information anyway, but you have gathered it all in one place and it's a good start for a witch hunt.

The bottom line is that "the law" is on record stating that there's nothing that can be done to Lori Drew for her transgressions. Therefore, it's up to the public at large to right the wrong. I, for one, sincerely hope that this evil bitch, Lori Drew, her husband, Curt Drew, and whomever is associated with them gets WHATEVER consequences are coming their way. As a mother, I know I am over-protective of my young sons. If another child did something to hurt them, I would approach the school (if it occurred there) or the other child's parent. However, if it were an adult that did anything to harm my child, temporary insanity would be my "excuse" and I would pity anyone getting in the way between the offending adult and myself. If there were sexual overtones in the messages, Lori Drew became a sexual predator. I pity her child who is not being taught morals or values, and who will forever have to deal with the choice her mother made. Her child should be removed from the home and placed with a loving family who will teach them and guide them. Lori Drew should leave the country. I doubt there are many places she can go to in America where her name will not be known. God is forgiving. I happen to be human, not godlike. My choice would be to have nothing to do with a woman such as Lori Drew, and I certainly wouldn't want to have her anywhere near my children.
 

For those of you who feel powerless against this injustice, please read. You are not powerless.. Public pressure CAN result in the proper handling of this case as it has many times before.

Example:

About a month ago, a child nearly drowned in the family swimming pool. The child was pulled inside the house to try to recessitate the child.

A cop who showed up after paramedics arrived, ran into the house and slipped on the wet floor. A floor wet, because the child was soaking wet.

After the cop received full pay for her workman's comp claim...and after all of the cops medical bills were paid....this cop proceeded to sue the family of the boy who is now a vegitable.

Public outrage and anger lead to the cop's suspension from the force...and the cop was finally forced to repeal her case.

Sarah, I think you've done the right thing. You're not condoning or encouraging physical vigilantism, and you've made a stand against anonymous bullying on the internet.

When people know they can be discovered and outed, they'll stop doing these foolish acts of impersonation and creating false identities. Protecting their names and reputations will only make the problem worse.

I don't believe she is criminally responsible for Megan's death. But she's a very mixed up person, and punishment by public unmasking is appropriate, in my view. People who consider playing games on-line should fear the repercussions of their anonymous safety net being yanked out from below them.
 

Lori Drew IS criminally responsible for Megan Meier's death. Lori stalked her victim and used all the same techniques as any other child predator. The good news is Dardeene Prairie enacted a new law against internet harassment. The two things which MUST be done now is to convince the feds to prosecute under their laws. Also to make sure no one ever uses Lori Drew's advertising service again.

This is Megan's mom, Tina Meier, and I wanted to update everyone on the details for the candlelight vigil for Saturday, November 24, 2007.

*We are meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Fort Zumwalt West Middle school parking lot.

*Please bring a candle, cup to hold the candle and something to light the candle. (If you cut a small X in the bottom of the cup, you can slide the candle through it and then you won't have wax dripping on you)

*We will then light the candle's shortly after 6:00 p.m. and start walking from the school down Waterford crystal drive towards Megan's house and end up in front of the Drew's house.

*There is a common ground area across the street and we will have pa system and microphone. if anyone would like to speak, read a poem, etc., they are more than welcome.

*This wonderful idea came from students who wanted to see justice for Megan and for that we are so happy. Nothing we can do will bring Megan back, but we can all learn from Megan and take a part of her with us everyday for the rest of our lives to try to be a better person and think about things we say to people before we say them!

I hate to bring this up, but has anyone noticed that this insecure, young girl, was allowed to pack on make up and post sexy pictures of herself on the internet? I know that there is NO way my parents would have permitted that. Why does it seem ok for some parents to let their 13 yr old daughters look 20? How about NOT letting them do that, NOT letting them go to myspace until they are old enough, and NOT letting them add boys that are older because they are "hot"? A 13 yr old girl should not be allowed to flirt with anyone on the internet. It's the INTERNET. There are psychos on the internet - and now a young, sweet, girl is dead. So much life ahead of her.
What's done is done - and I'm all for hanging this family. If there is a fund being set up to help with legal fees I will be donating. This whole situation is horrifying. I'm not blaming Megan or her mother for her death - although I think her mom could have done things differently. I absolutely blame Lori, who illegally harassed a minor *to death*, literally. It's all about protecting your kids, even at the expense of no myspace. A day in hell for most kids. This in no way should be taken as though I blame her parents. Lori Drew and anyone else saying "she would have committed suicide anyway" are incorrect. People do, and have, overcome depression and suicidal feeling.

But not when taunted mercilessly by someone who actively worked to gain trust only to destroy it.

I hope you're successful in getting everyone in town to boycott the Drew business. Drew should be facing a civil suit for her behavior.

To Lori Drew-- I wouldn't plan any trips for a little while.

To Ron Meier-- I think if you're convicted of vandalism, your sentence should be to provide the Drews with one five-pound bag of Rebel Fescue grass seed. I'd think it'd cost about $15 at Lowe's. Tell you what, if you have a legal fund, I'll happily donate the $$, and some extra so you can tie a bow around it for them.
 

It seems there are several applicable crimes that Lori Drew can be charged with committing. Why is the FBI unable to come up with a prosectution? Is the FBI investigation file available (so everyone can review it)? It sounds like there is an opportunity for fame and fortune for any aggressive lawyer.
 

The naming of Lori Drew has sparked quite a debate indeed. Some major news outlets have chosen to name the perpetrator(s) behind this story such as the New York Times. Some have chosen not to. The mainstream media however has concluded that the blogging community should shoulder the responsibility of first naming the perpetrator behind this story.

The first question I have in this debate is simple. What is new here? Since before the French Revolution, the media has been used to 'out' individuals who's actions seem to bear public relevancy in some way.

Although Lori Drew has not yet been charged in the case of Megan Meier, the media has never required formal charges to be made before running a story. In the case of some journalist like Dan Rather, some media outlets run with stories before even confirming that they're true.

In this particular case, media outlets that have chosen to withhold Lori Drew's identity have done so in consideration of other Drew family members.

I'm wondering if by doing this, the media plans to always withhold the names of interesting persons who outrage the community, if those persons have children. This would certainly be quite a ground-breaking event

Right at this moment, there is a story of a cop who is under investigation in the strange death of one wife and the disappearance of another. The cop in the story has a family, yet the media huddles outside his home relentlessly.

I could go back and list thousands of stories where the media wasted no time in delivering the names and occupations of individuals that were later cleared of any wrong-doing. I've never heard of another instance where the media apologized for naming names.

Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry' certainly applies well to conduct of most major news outlets.

Lori Drew is a primary subject of the story, she is not a rape victim, and is not a minor. Identifying her breaks no new ground, nor does it deviate from what news outlets do on a daily basis.

I also remind readers that her name and her role in the Megan Meier tragedy were documented as public record. A public record that Lori filed on her own accord. This is a critically important fact in this debate.

News outlets, bloggers and the general public were handed Lori's name and Lori's own self admissions when she herself filed that police report and sought to elevate the entire situation into the public domain.

Had Lori Drew simply acknowledged what she did was wrong, and apologized - the police report that identified her may have never been filed, and the entire situation may have well been kept at the lowest profile.

Will we see the media write about this? Not likely,

Outing Lori Drew's name does not have to be 'new' or 'groundbreaking' to be important. The disclosure of her identity was done because law enforcement was lagging, and so the release of her name by the public and for the public has resulted in a new angle of accountability--very democratic 'sous-veillance.'

Indeed, prosecutor Mr. Banas was compelled to take a harder look at charges for Ms. Drew (to be announced this week) and there is no doubt that the public outcry directly influenced that. It's not about originality here; it's about accountability. This is child advocacy here; not a 'Battle of the Bands.'

And your erudite speculation about 'what never would have happened' if Drew had simply acknowledged her wrongdoing and apologized--how is it you have such firm judgment on developments that never occurred?

Isn't that exactly what has become so lame about modern journalism? Running a sensational story about 'what could have happened?' It's ham-handed to editorialize about things that never happened, but could have--how can you be wrong?

If you're keen on finding something original and groundbreaking taking place in the public forum, how about a story about how bloggers and reporters suddenly resist the urge to opine and pontificate,and decline the compulsion to amplify their ostensibly clever little angle with so much high-flown harbagalarb?

Not likely I'm afraid.

This issue is supposed to have been about an injustice to a child. Could we keep the focus on the child for a change, and not ourselves?
 

If it was a man who did this he would be in jail, but as the law is profemale, because of the femi-nazi lawyers SHE gets away with it.

Also if she had of set up a website to steal money she would also be in jail, seems to me the US is a place where money and cars and TV'S and rubbish like that are more important
than human life.
 

we advertized with a magazine that was owned by Drew and no way did we have anything to do with anyones personal life, strickly bussiness, the magazine is no longer in business
we feel for all families that are troubled.
